About the Role:
Established in the 1990s, our client is one of Australia’s leading tarpaulin manufacturers, supplying products for Agricultural, Construction & Civil uses, as well as fabrication of Roll & Retractable Tarps, Dam liners for Water Storage, Flexible Containment Bunding for Chemical Waste and Covers for Haystacks, Grain & Almond Bunkers.
A newly created opportunity now exists for a pro-active experienced Operations Manager, who is skilled in manufacturing, planning, scheduling and procurement, to take ownership of the day-to-day business operations throughout an exciting transition phase. This is more than a State Operations role, it is an opportunity for you to take real ownership, work closely with current leadership and help shape what the business will look like next.
To be successful, it is envisaged you will be a “hands-on” operator, who can build a deep understanding of the business’s product range, raw materials and production methods, to gain insight and improve operational decisions. You will need to be equally comfortable on the shop floor as well as in the numbers and have a curious, practical and improvement focused mindset.

Duties:
- Lead a structured three-month handover with the current owner to capture critical operational, product, supplier and customer knowledge.
- Build a deep understanding of the product range, raw materials, production methods, quality requirements, lead times and common custom variations.
- Manage day-to-day operational performance across planning, scheduling, stock control, procurement coordination, quality, maintenance and dispatch.
- Maintain business continuity during transition by quickly resolving operational issues and keeping service, quality and delivery standards on track.
- Document core workflows, key contacts, operating risks and improvement opportunities so the business can transition smoothly and retain knowledge.
- Work closely with the existing team to understand what is really happening on the floor and use that insight to improve decision-making.
- Identify and implement practical improvements in workflow, inventory accuracy, reporting, process discipline, communication and overall operating rhythm.
- Manage HSEQ program to ensure all policies are maintained and adhered to.
- Lead and support the day-to-day operations team with clear expectations, follow-through and a calm, solutions-focused approach.
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 5 years Operations and Management experience
- Relevant Tertiary Qualifications, highly desirable
- Previous operations leadership experience within manufacturing, industrial, technical or product-based environments.
- A hands-on style and a willingness to spend time in the detail rather than managing only from a desk.
- Proven ability to learn products deeply and translate that knowledge into better operational decisions.
- Strong process orientation, with the ability to bring structure, prioritisation and accountability to daily operations.
- Experience across production planning, inventory or stock control, procurement, quality and operational problem solving.
- Ability to work effectively through change, transition or ambiguity and build credibility with an existing owner-operator and team.
- Commercial awareness and sound judgement across service, quality, efficiency and cost.
- Confidence using operational systems, spreadsheets and reporting tools; ERP or MRP exposure is desirable.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to work across leadership, production teams, suppliers and customers.
