About the Role
We are seeking a licensed and experienced Senior Industrial Refrigeration Mechanic to take a leading role on major industrial projects across food processing, cold storage, logistics, and commercial facilities.
This role is ideal for a highly capable hands-on technician who enjoys responsibility, mentoring others, and being involved in project delivery, without stepping away from the tools entirely. You will work closely with the Director, General Manager, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high technical standard.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Installation
- Lead installation, upgrade, and commissioning of industrial refrigeration systems
- Provide on-site technical direction to apprentices and technicians
- Oversee pressure testing, leak detection, commissioning, and performance validation
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical and system issues
Project & Site Coordination
- Assist with planning job scopes, materials, and labour requirements
- Coordinate site activities across mechanical, electrical, and other trades
- Participate in site meetings and provide progress updates
- Identify and manage variations in consultation with management
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all work complies with AS/NZS standards, WHS requirements, and environmental regulations
- Complete and maintain required documentation (SWMS, permits, inductions, licences)
- Lead by example in safe refrigerant handling and site practices
Client & Team Engagement
- Act as a key on-site contact for clients during project delivery
- Maintain professional relationships and communicate clearly on progress and issues
- Work closely with engineering, service, and office teams
Handover & Continuous Improvement
- Assist with system handover, documentation, and client training
- Support post-project reviews to improve processes and outcomes
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Trade-qualified and licensed Refrigeration Mechanic
- Strong experience in industrial refrigeration environments
- Solid knowledge of ammonia and commercial refrigeration systems
- Proven ability to lead jobs, mentor others, and manage site activities
- Strong safety awareness and documentation skills
- Current driver’s licence
Highly Regarded
- Experience on large or multi-site projects
- Exposure to Simpro or similar job/project systems
- Desire to step into a senior / project-focused role over time
Working Conditions
- Mix of hands-on site work and planning/coordination
- Travel to client sites as required
- Supported transition into greater project responsibility (if desired)
Reporting Structure
You will work closely with and report to the Director and General Manager, collaborating with engineering, service, project, and office teams.
